Why rainy weddings should be like, well …water off a duck’s back.
Just weeks to go and your wedding is set at a beautiful outdoor venue. You’ve downloaded every weather app known to apple and android, and you just want to know what will happen! No matter how much you plan, you can’t control the weather. With this in mind, Here’s why a wet weather wedding can be just as beautiful as a breezy spring afternoon, with some preparation and the right attitude!
Rain is easily one of the most beautiful things we can’t control as photographers. If it happens on your wedding, you’re very lucky.
1 : It’s romantic!
Rain is one of the most romantic types of weather in this wedding photographer’s opinion. It might be a bit chilly in winter, but it brings a unique ambiance. Who hasn’t been caught in the rain with a loved one, been drenched when they got home, but looked back on the memory with a smile? I have!
2: There’s always dry options - and they rock
You can hire a marquee or your venue may have wet weather options available! It never hurts to plan ahead and ask.
Marquees can be very beautiful and even ad to your day. Fill the canopy under them fairylights and/or hang up small prints of photos that show your story as a couple.
3: If you do get wet, the photos can be spectacular
Okay, you caught my bias - Photos are one of the only things you’ll keep years down the track from your wedding day (aside from your marriage!)
Huddled tightly under an umbrella, with the icy glass rain glancing off, and the warmth of brand new marriage making all of that not matter. Just go to Pintrest and you’ll see plenty of happy couples, just married, cuddled up in the rain. These are some of my favorite style of wedding photos, and it’s easy to see why. - Absolutely stunning.
4: Rain helps to make your day unique.
Years from now people will still remember the rain, but they’ll remember more your positive attitude and how your love shone through it. It sounds corny but it’s true!
5: The grass is always greener.
Nothing brings out the brilliant leafy surrounds like a bit of rain. Who doesn’t like lush greenery at their wedding?
6: It’s good luck!
As I was writing this, a friend reminded me of possibly the most romantic point of all: a wet day on your wedding is regarded as good luck.
It’s considered that because wet knots are the hardest to unbind, if you tie yours on a rainy day, so too will your marriage!
I hope with the recent La Nina and rain in Canberra and Sydney lately, that this helps to ease your mind about wet weather on your wedding day.
No matter the weather, make sure to enjoy and make the most of it!
